FAQS

What is In-Home Care?

In-home care is a type of supportive service provided to seniors and people

with disabilities in their own homes. The aim is to help maintain

independence and quality of life while receiving assistance with activities of

daily living. The spectrum of home care services ranges from basic

companionship to specialized medical care.

What are the differences between Home Care and Home Health

Care?

Home Care assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as, bathing,

dressing, assist with mobility, meal preparation, companionship,

transportation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, etc.

Home Health Care entails skilled nursing care, such as, wound care,

physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medication

management, etc.

What are the benefits of In-Home Care?

Some key advantages to you and your family are:

Personalized care: Care is tailored to your specific needs, ensuring

you receive the exact level of support you require.

Independence: An in-home caregiver will help you maintain your

independence and quality of life by assisting with daily activities, but

won’t dominate every aspect of your life.

Comfort: Remaining in your own home may lead to a sense of

contentment and security arising out of your familiarity of your

surroundings.

Cost-effectiveness: In-home care can be a cost-effective alternative

to institutional care, such as nursing homes and assisted living

facilities.

Reduced stress: With consistent in-home care, your loved ones will

have more free time to address other obligations and can arrange

much needed breaks in previous caregiving responsibilities.

One-on-one attention: The personal nature of in-home care allows

for customized attention from a caregiver, who can ensure your

needs are met and issues promptly addressed.

Improved health outcomes: In-home care can lead to improved

health outcomes, as you are more likely to follow your care plan and

receive the assistance you need to manage your health and or

improve your overall quality of life.

Does insurance pay for non-medical in-home care services?

Most medical insurance plans do not cover home care (aka private-duty)

services. Long-term care insurance policies may reimburse some of the

cost of non-medical care. Check with your medical insurance or long-term

care insurance company.

Do I need to have been in the hospital or have a physician order

to have private-duty care?

No. Since most services are privately paid, and not paid by insurance, those requirements do not need to be satisfied.

Can I have home healthcare paid by my insurance and private-

duty home care services (I make arrangements for payment) at

the same time?

Yes, home care (private-duty) services can be provided while you are receiving home healthcare services. With home care service, you may decide how many hours and days of services you wish to receive.

Will I have to sign a contract?

There are no contracts. However, it is necessary that you sign an Agreement, as required by Connecticut regulations for Homemaker/Companion agencies. The Agreement outlines the services to be provided, the terms of the service and the cost for those services. However, there is no commitment for a specific duration.
